I guess I was supposed to forward-promote this, but a 5-minute audio diary version of my Capitol sleepover essay for Dane101 ran on To The Best Of Our Knowledge this weekend. There are archives.
I hate listening to myself talk in recordings. It unsettles and disconcerts me. Especially this one, because I had laryngitis that day and the whole recording process was a series of stops and starts while I variously coughed and drank more tea. But I managed to pin myself to my radio and do so. It's still odd. But they did some superb editing and mixed in sound (chanting, singing, bagpipes) that my friend Cynthia collected during the protests and I'm happy with the result.
It was odd to hear Jim Flemming say my name in introducing the piece, in a voice that has been part of my radio listening experience for more than a decade. Not that he's a hero per se, but it is a strange reversal of roles. I feel too young and unpublished for such things.
So, neat.
