My goal with this blog is to be neither topical, cohesive, nor
particularly relevant. So far, so good.
E.g. Introspection. “I have been accused of being"very serious" by
journalism professors who think this is an admirable quality. My
grandmother says this of me also. At work I am told, “We were told you
had a sense of humor!” after I fail to recognize that my editor is
joking when he wonders, “You mean you’re using verbs now?” Then I
shock him with lewd headline suggestions. It would be fair to say I
like to laugh but am easily distracted by serious things.”
e.g. Observation. “My Polish grandmother bruises if you so much as
look at her. Wheezes when she laughs. Settles back into her armchair
like a baby bird.”
e.g. Politics and opinion. “It is not possible to melt bombs and end war just by
singing in unison in a theater full of thousands of people plus the
Decemberists. But it does feel nice.”
e.g. Mystery. "One morning, I wake with cut on my
foot. It matches part of a dream, in which I receive cut on my foot.
I live alone, I can find no sharp objects on
the floor of my bedroom, my cats have no blood on their teeth. What
has happened? Theories: parasites, vampires, sleep-knife-fighting."
